The Recreational Therapy Department at Bashor Children's Home is seeking a Recreation Coordinator who has a passion to work with youth and teach leisure skills. The job includes, but is not limited to facilitating recreation groups, assisting on the adventure challenge course; assisting with community involvement and planning community reintegration with unit managers, implementing structured recreation programs during the week and on weekend. Seeking a person who wants kids to stay active, improve their health, and have fun.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 21 years of age.
- A bachelor’s degree in physical education, recreation, or relative field. CTRS preferred.
- Possess valid driver’s license.
- Possess auto insurance if transporting youth in vehicles.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Able to pass required background checks, physical and drug screen.
- Have a sensitivity and commitment to serving a culturally diverse population.
- Have a commitment to continuous quality improvement as it relates to organizational development and service delivery.
- Possess advanced management knowledge and skills related to recreation services
- Knowledge and understanding of Recreational Program activities appropriate for population served.
- Flexible to accommodate needs of program and client, including evenings and weekends.
- Be willing to learn technical skills on a high ropes course and be comfortable at height
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for the supervision and safety of youth.
- Models behavior according to the policies and procedures of Bashor Children’s Home, State regulations and accreditation standards.
- Implements and supports individual treatment plans and program routine that includes a multi-disciplinary approach: daily living, therapy, medical, education, recreation, and spiritual life activities.
- Participate in an agency wide action team
- Provide feedback to multi-disciplinary team during weekly meetings to assist in continuum of care utilizing recreation services
- Attend weekly supervision with Director of Recreational Therapy
- Responsible for managing youth’s behaviors
- Establish effective working relationships with management, employees, employee representatives and the community members
- Facilitate therapeutic recreation groups/programs by assessing, planning implementing, and evaluating outcomes of program.
- Assist with planning and implementing campus wide Recreation events and activities.
- Continuation of education on best therapeutic practices to provide appropriate care.
- Assist with the management and executing various athletic clubs with the youth.
- Assist the Recreational Therapy Director with the Pekarek Adventure Challenge Course.
- Ensure the recreation facilities are operated and maintained effectively and safely
- Ensure facility policies are adhered to
- Assist in managing community reintegration program
- Monitor the use of recreation equipment and facilities.

Job Type: Full-time
Starting Pay: $18.90/hour up to $21.55/ hour( based on qualifying factors)
Schedule: Tuesday through Saturday with one late night.
